Paper photos can fade and/or discolor over time. Along with scanning your photos color correction is applied to photos that have faded. Slides usually attract dust that shows up on the scanned image. Dust removal is applied in cases that it does not distort original image.
This was a scan labeled 1957 Yosemite. The original had a blue overtone to it. The color correction looks great!
